A Slice of Dramatic Medieval History from Angus Donald

A Slice of Dramatic Medieval History from Angus Donald

Angus Donald is the author of two novels about Robin Hood. But not the typical, green-tights and a jolly swagger version of Robin Hood that you might expect from numerous Hollywood movies.

No, Angus Donald's version of Robin is much darker than most fictional versions, something that led Dan Jones, reviewing Outlaw for the Sunday Times, to say: "The darkness of this tale is present chiefly in the graphic descriptions of limbs sliced, tongues diced and eyes put out with gimlets."

Angus is also particularly keen on ensuring that his setting is steeped in historical detail and realism and a great deal of research goes into preparing the background for each novel in the series. In book two, Holy Warrior, Robin of Locksley journeys to the Holy Land to participate in the Third Crusade.

To mark the publication of the Holy Warrior this month, Angus has posted a new historical note on his website, www.angus-donald.com, exploring the causes and events of the Third Crusade and concluding with his own opinion as to its success (or otherwise). Angus is also a regular blogger – sign up for his website's RSS feed for regular updates.
