John Taylor – one of 'the wild boys'

On Wednesday night Little, Brown Book Group invited members of the trade to meet John Taylor – co-founder and bass player of legendary pop group Duran Duran. It was a fabulous evening, based at the basement bar in Soho House. We were all there to celebrate his book, which we will be publishing later this year, where the rock ‘n’ roll star charts his fascinating (and often turbulent) life.

John was an icon of the 80s and his glamorous style was evident as he effortlessly worked the room (head and shoulders above everyone else I might add) putting everyone at ease with his down-to-earth nature. With the champagne and conversation flowing, it didn’t take people long to gingerly get out their phones for photo opportunities. There was a lively atmosphere as we lined up for photos, all of us armed with our ‘I Heart John Taylor' badges – pledging our allegiance.

As the evening began to wind down, guests were treated to goodie bags, including Duran Duran CDs, signed postcards and badges.

After a few more signings and hearty goodbyes, John was whisked out the door, leaving behind a trail of newly acquired, avid fans.

John Taylor's editor, Antonia Hodgson said of the event:

What a great party! I know John was really touched by the warm and enthusiastic reception he received and is very excited about publication. He’s been working extremely hard on the book and I know he’ll put all his energies into promoting it in September. The party was his first real taste of the British book trade and he thought you were all marvellous…!

Little, Brown will be publishing in September this year.
