Scotland’s most famous fisherman and Sphere author Jimmy Buchan, well known to the millions of viewers of the television series Trawlermen, embarked on the voyage of a lifetime to celebrate the publication of his memoir, Trawlerman, out in paperback original tomorrow (2nd June). The journey from Peterhead to London has taken two days, and started in the face of gale force 9 winds.  They arrived in London at midday today, Wednesday 1st June to glorious sunshine, mooring at St Katherine’s Pier near Tower Bridge.

Jimmy’s North Sea Trawler Amity II has a crew of 8 – plus two intrepid competition-winners on board who have made the trip down with the gang.  The sailors’ unanimous opinion: travelling down the Thames was one of the most amazing things they have ever done – high praise for the capital. The purpose of the journey is to raise awareness of the problems that the British fishing industry is facing and to raise funds for the Fishermen’s Mission.

Amity II is open to the public between Wednesday 2nd June and Saturday 4th June inclusive, so please go down and board the Thames’ first ever North Sea Trawler.   You can also meet Jimmy at his book signing event at Waterstone’s Leadenhall Market on Friday 3rd June from 12:30 to 1:30.
