Loyal readers, the significance of today cannot have escaped you. We are now a mere 58 days from the Royal Wedding. Yes, as I told Jeffrey earlier in one of my regular bulletins, a trifling 1,392 hours separates us from the moment that Kate Middleton becomes Princess Catherine. She is not only gaining a husband and a Prince, she is gaining a syllable. I salute her.

As I have told Sophie many a time – to little avail – the woman is a testimony to the powers of stylish, understated grooming. If only my daughter would blow dry her hair nicely, instead of carefully cultivating the impression that she has been lashed with rain then abandoned in a hedgerow, perhaps she too could attract a high calibre husband. Given the scarcity of jobs that are likely to be available when she graduates, this may be the shrewdest choice available to her.
