Your last chance to vote for World Book Night by Dorothy Koomson

Read on below from a special note from Dorothy Koomson about World Book Night.
I love books. Absolutely love them.
Admittedly I’d struggle to pin down my favourite book of all time – actually, I’d struggle to pin down 10 but that’s because I like an eclectic selection of books for a variety of reasons. But that doesn’t mean I’m not going to try to pare down my ‘favourites’ list so that I can add them to the voting for World Book Night Top 100 books. From these top100 books nominated by the public, a selection will be chosen to be given away on 21st April 2012.
The reason I’m going to put myself through the ordeal of scaling down my list of favourite books is because I want to make sure that commercial books are fairly represented on the top 100.
I’m a strong supporter of commercial fiction – especially commercial women’s fiction/chicklit – and I think those of us who love these types of books need to make our voices heard. We need to show that the books we’re buying are just as important as the other more ‘high-brow’ books. This is the perfect opportunity. It may not ultimately result in our favourite books being chosen to be part of World Book Night 2012, but it will let the organisers know that a sizeable proportion of the book reading public love mainstream books. And if World Book Night is all about the reading public, then we need to tell them what we read.
So, visit this site www.worldbooknight.org and let your fingers be your voice – vote for your favourite books, and let everyone know you’re a commercial fiction lover and proud.
We've only got 1 day left to vote, so we'd better get a move on. Now, back to that list…
Love

PS To take part in World Book Night 2011, I bought four different books and gave them away to four people. I’ll probably do the same again next year because it’s important to support the book industry with my money as well as my general appreciation for books. If we don’t buy books the industry suffers and we readers suffer as a result.
